La Joya ISD Launches $3 Million Technology Investment to Empower Students

La Joya ISD has made a historic $3 million investment to expand student access to technology, putting devices in the hands of learners from pre-kindergarten through high school.
The initiative, part of the district’s Strategic Plan Achieving Excellence Together 2030 under Priority 5: Operational Excellence and Financial Stability, ensures every student has the tools they need to succeed.
The plan includes distributing more than 2,500 iPads to pre-kindergarten students, over 4,000 Chromebooks to second- and sixth-grade students, and 2,100 Windows laptops to ninth graders. District leaders said the devices are part of a larger effort to improve equity, digital literacy and readiness for future careers.
“Technology is more than just devices. It’s opportunity,” Chief Technology Officer, Haissam Mayasi said. “This investment equips our students for success today while preparing them for the future.”
At campuses, students received their new devices last month. Pre-kindergarten student Isabella Martinez. said she was excited to use hers to learn letters and play reading games. “It’s fun because I can practice and show my teacher,” she said.
Teachers across the district said the devices will support learning both in and out of the classroom. Palmview High School teacher Lylia Cuevas said the new laptops will make a difference for her ninth graders.
“Having reliable devices means I can design lessons that go deeper into research and collaboration,” Cuevas said. “It levels the playing field so every student has the same opportunity to engage with challenging material.”
District officials emphasized that the new devices are only one part of a comprehensive Districtwide Technology and Infrastructure Plan, which also includes upgrading systems, improving connectivity and supporting teachers with training.
“This is more than a distribution of devices,” Mayasi added. “It’s a commitment to our students, our families and the future of our community.”
