In an effort to motivate students to come to school on a cold day, students at Sam Fordyce Elementary got a special treatment. On Wednesday, February 17, 2018, with temperatures in the 30s, students were allowed to wear pajamas to school to cuddle up and read during a special Drop Everything and Read (DEAR) time. At approximately 1:15 p.m., all staff and students were instructed to drop everything they were doing and read for one hour. During this time, students were able to read a book by themselves, with a friend, read on the computer, on an electronic device or listen to books read aloud by their teacher. Students were also able to take AR quizzes on books they had read. At the end of the day, a drawing was held for all students present. There were five winners in each grade level.
