Students at Sam Fordyce Elementary participated in the Hour of Code on December 5, 2016. They joined millions of students in over 180 countries in the Hour of Code.  According to the Code.org website, the Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify "code", to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science. It has since become a worldwide effort to celebrate computer science, starting with 1-hour coding activities but expanding to all sorts of community efforts. The Hour of Code takes place every year during Computer Education Week, this year it was December 5-11, 2016.

Our Pre-K and Kinder students did the unplugged activities while 1st through 5th grade students did the computer activities.  The games start off very basic but become challenging as they advance.  Students are allowed to help each other out as they advance levels. Students really look forward to this day where they get to play “computer games” and learn coding.
